Store Holiday Hours Make Me Hoppin Mad

One of my favorite topics to get on my soap box about is that when it comes to certain holidays in the US some people get the day off and others don't. When we lived in Australia my Knoxvillian hubbie would be frustrated that all of the shops and businesses closed on Christmas day, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Apart from a few gas stations and convenience stores that remained open, you simply had to stock up on milk and the other essentials a day in advance.

Easter seems more significant here than it was in the multi-cultural city I lived in, yet you can still grocery shop, etc on Easter Sunday. Can't we cope without the stores for one whole day? Wouldn't it be nice if everyone could spend time at home with their families, rather than out wandering the shops and spending money?

Now, I noticed a few stores weren't open yesterday, but was anyone surprised by who stayed open and who closed? Do you think that we loose the significance of Easter Sunday by going shopping?
